I think it's interesting and just for the record I don't have a dog in this hunt just watching.
It seems like Smiley has worked on keeping the sprints going in Texas for a while and it looks like he might be doing it.
3 new tracks this year interested in running them and enough of around that they may pull it off.
Just an observation, I would hate to see another class go down the tubes.
It takes more than a checkered flag to make a winner.

I agree. It seems to me that anyone running a 305 sprint in this area owes Smiley something. I don't know that it has to be undying loyalty or anything like that, but to me not bashing him on a public forum shouldn't be too much to ask. Some things in racing are known, such as the purses are always too small and the race car needs more power. :) The point of 305 racing is to keep the costs down to an amount that an adequate number of people can participate relative to the purses available. That the SST has as many cars as it does would indicate that Smiley has done a pretty good job in that area.

I have read every one of the post and Stan you have said it ALL.....I am the guy that can not afford to run every week, Hell I barley make every other week in the SST you and Smiley have the LOVE of Racing as I do and most on this forum just remember not every one has big money to run,,,It all started when we told some one my car was faster and I drive better than you, Member those days..(FUN).. So I give prop's to Smiley for keeping Sprint Cars alive and were us low budget race nuts can still race....So 305 at 3 places I hope it works and we get more sprint's out of all this, but remember that money loses car count.

That's my two cents and my first post :D

All being said, we are excited to be running the 305's on a weekly basis and believe it is going to be a great year. Hope to see ya'll as soon as this weather clears and we can get the track dried out and get cars on it.

WRONG. Money does not lose car count. It does cause more people to spend more to try to win. IT'S UP TO THE PROMOTERS AND SERIES ORGANIZERS TO MAKE RULES THAT KEEP MONEY FROM WINNING. Nearly every ECONOMY CLASS of car that I have seen get started either as a weekly class or a national class the organizers have allowed the class to evolve. YOU HAVE TO STOP THE EVOLUTION AND that is the true reason the racesaver rules have been a growing class. French Grimes and Smiley have done a good job of holding the evolution of the cars. Lazy promoters or promoters that do not do proper tech inspections cause the evolution. Make the rules and then make EVERYONE go by them. The 305 class will grow and you will see more and more tracks start to run them. The most important thing is for the promoter to quit trying to invent a new mouse trap and stay with the standard national rules.

We will be running the 305's in Amarillo on a bi-weekly schedule for 2010 and then on labor day weekend we will be hosting the "Southwestern Championships" $5000 to win races with 2 night of preliminary races for $1000 to win each. see the web site for info: http://www.speedbowlvalley.com

SOME OF YOU RAG ON SMILEY--he has put together a good show of cars and their has to be a BOSS of the group-if you let racers run the program--it will crash in no time--I have been a racer and now trying to promote--ihave seen both sides--NOW-if you start another sprint class--it will eventually ruin sprint racing in the area--just my thought--if you are running 2 or 3 different programs--WHERE IN THE HELL ARE YOU GONNA GET THE FANS---you just are splitting them--if you run them weekly--what are you gonna use for specials---again--just my 2 cents----

You maybe right BO ,only time will tell.

You and what you have done at cowtown speaks for itself. That is why you are sprint promoter of the year.

^5 to Smiley for what he has done for sprints in the area and for that he is highly respected. In no way is RPM trying to take away from other tracks and the SST's as we all know is by invitation only, we feel that giving drivers a place to race on a weekly basis is a great move for drivers and spectators alike. We are excited about having the 305's run this year. Time will tell and that is no doubt, BUT if you don't try it you will never know, RIGHT!!!!!!!!

See ya'll in March......................

Why don’t promoters just level the payouts from the winners on back? Keep increasing the purses, but in order to keep your car count up move some of that top 5 money to the 10th place on back guys. In my opinion this would grow car count while keeping cost down. Sure everyone wants to win but if I win and get not much more than the 20th place guy why should I spend a butt load of money?

I went to a mod show in Las Cruces last fall and while they had a sexy 10,000 to win, over half the field got nothing for their three days of racing efforts. I won't be going back unless they change things. They even added an extra $5,000 on top for the winner to make it an outrageous $15k to win where I think it would have meant more had that $5k been distributed at $100 to all the non transfer cars. At least you get something and can pay for your gas home.

I just think it's getting real hard for the average Joe to compete with the top dogs. Eliminating that first place carrot money may help. Again, let's not reduce purses just help the other guys out some.

Off my soapbox now! :D

Apparently you are not aware how Smiley's purse graduates down from first . It is really very little differance between 1st and about 5th and so on .
