Some time ago there was a thread about old tracks on Cowtown's forum. I remember Bo Rawdon talking about an old track in Kennedale that obviously ran before Cowtown was built. He said it was located at I-20 and Mansfield Hwy (Bus. 287) where the galvanizing plant now sits. I went to historicaerials.com and was able to locate this track. It looks like there was a short version and long version of the track in the 1957 picture. It looks like one turn was moved in to shorten the track? You can still make out the track in the 1963 picture. In the 1970 picture the track is gone.

Anyone know what the name of this track was? Just curious because I've never heard anything about this one.

According to Sammy Rawdon, Bo's Mom, it was Village Creek Speedway and it closed the year before Cowtown opened.

As a kid I used to fish Village Creek under the old highway bridge and for the life of me I don't remember a track anywhere in that area. I must not have been to observent as a kid.

TTT Like me you would have been kinda young to remember it at all. I was 9 years old making Bo 10 the year that it closed, but it was there.

Go to: http://www.historicaerials.com/

Type in Kennedale TX in the search and then hit 1957 the track will be up in the upper left hand corner of the image. It was east of the old highway and north of the creek almost directly across the road from where Apache Auto Salvage is now. In the 1963 image the track appears to be closed and abandoned.

Thanks for the info Brush. Now that I think about, I still don't remember the track, but I do remember hearing the cars. Where 20 crosses Village Creek now, there used to be a fishing place where we used to camp overnight. We could hear racecars running and later on in life I always said that I could hear the cars running at Cowtown. Since this was pre 63 it was before Cowtown was there, so it had to be Village Creek Speedway.

I am a little older than you and Bo, Brush. I was in my teens at this time.
